LWA & Minerals
Lightweight aggregate (LWA) is the generic name of a group of aggregates having a relative density lower than normal density aggregates. The product is manufactured from a particular mineral feedstock that is then treated and subjected to a high temperature process in a rotary kiln, resulting in the expanded low density product.
KFS have designed and supplied the specialist combustion systems for this process utilising our CFD Modelling capability combined with our bespoke in-house kiln bed model to optimise the design of the system.
We are able to provide combustion systems for other mineral processes requiring thermal treatment such as calcining or drying. These include minerals such as diatomaceous earth, and titanium dioxide. Each system is developed and designed in conjunction with our in-house modelling to ensure design optimisation for each individual process.
